Mary

McAteer

Mary grew up in County Carlow but has lived most of her life in rural County Meath. She divides most of her time between South-West Donegal and North Meath. Mary has been painting exclusively in watercolours for the last 12 years and in that time she has developed a passion for this medium.

Her preferred locations for painting are the countryside in Meath, South-West Donegal and the colourful villages of Provence, where the quality of light has appealing luminosity. Mary delights in achieving a freshness and luminosity in her finished work and her aim is always to capture the light in her subject and to translate that into translucent watercolour washes with soft transitions of colour. Mary was elected to membership of the Ulster Watercolour Society in 2016 and has exhibited with them annually since, in Belfast. In the past Mary has been invited to exhibit with the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club and in the Glebe Gallery, Church Hill, Co. Donegal. She has been represented in many group exhibitions and her work can be found in private collections in Ireland, Europe and the U.S.
