Khalid Paracha

Both his father and grandfather were artists, and constant sources of inspiration in his younger days. Even while in medical school he persevered at drawing and painting and took many opportunities to enter local classes and competitions.

His professional career saw him concentrate on further studies in the field of anaesthesiology and being awarded fellowships of the colleges in Pakistan and Ireland and a Masters of Science degree of the NUI. Finally, he was appointed as a consultant anaesthesiologist in Cavan General Hospital in Ireland. These achievements did not diminish his artistic goals and being self-taught, pursued painting for art exhibitions for local and international charities.

An early retirement in 2020 allowed him to follow and attend several well-known international artists and their workshops / demos. These confirmed his passion and commitment to what was once a mere a hobby. This pursuance has taught him how to simplify a scene and create depth in his paintings, laying great importance on understanding colour theory.

Elected as a new member of Watercolour Society of Ireland in 2022, he was also awarded the newcomer prize for his entry.

By now several of his paintings have been selected and exhibited in different art competitions in UK, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Finland and Pakistan, winning a SAA runner up prize in 2023 and a second prize in “Do you speak watercolour?” art competition, 2024.

He now awaits the result of the triennial art competition “Step by step” 2024, being among seventy finalists, which will be announced on 22nd of August in Gdansk – Poland.

He will represent the WCSI as a Liaison Officer in the forthcoming European Watercolour Societies symposium scheduled in Tampere – Finland in August 2024 and looks forward to participating in the WCSI members exhibition in September 2024.
