Betty Christie grew up in the countryside, outside Limavady, Co. Derry.
She graduated in 1975, with First Class Honours, from the Belfast College of Art and Design, and has lived in Belfast ever since.
Her work is predominantly inspired by her rural upbringing and her love of the natural world.
She is a member of the Water Colour Society of Ireland, the Pastel Society of Ireland, the Irish Society of Botanical Artists and the Association of Art and Design Education, and she participates in all their exhibitions and projects.
Her paintings have also been selected for many other exhibitions, including, most recently, the Royal Ulster Academy annual exhibitions of 2019, and 2021-2024.
Her paintings are in the collections of Enterprise Ireland, the Water Colour Society of Ireland, Lisburn and Castlereagh Borough Council, Limerick University, the South-Eastern Trust and the Northern Ireland Civil Service, as well as in many private collections.
