David Long

Born in Belfast in 1933, David began his art career as an apprentice damask designer. He subsequently studied part-time at Belfast College of Art and became a professional painter in 1967. His subjects are varied but his major commissions have been for portraits. He has painted over eighty commissioned portraits including Senator Miller Cameron for Antrim County Hall in 1972 and two chairmen of the Belfast Harbour Office. In 1994 at the opening of Antrim Area Hospital, one of David’s watercolours was presented to HRH The Prince of Wales. In 2002 he received his highest compliment when a print of one of his paintings was hung in the home of one of America’s best known portrait painters, John Howard Sanden.
