The Water Colour Society of Ireland
Betty Christie
Betty Christie graduated with First Class Honours from the Belfast College of Art and Design in 1975, followed by an Art Teachers’ Diploma in 1976.
She taught art full-time until the birth of her second son, when she returned to painting, later combining this with part-time teaching as her children grew up. She has lived in Belfast for over 40 years, but her work is still influenced by her rural upbringing, in Limavady, Co Derry. In particular by her parents’ cottage garden, the coast, and all the wildlife and natural forms found within the landscape.
Her work is representational, mainly in pastel or in watercolour, with some mixed-media. She is a member of the Arts’ Society of Ulster, the Pastel Society of Ireland, the Water Colour Society of Ireland, the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club and the Irish Society of Botanical Artists
Her work has been selected for numerous group exhibitions, more recently the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition, Belfast, the Royal Watercolour Society Open Contemporary Competition, London, and The Irish Alphabet in Botanical Art, Dublin, Derry and Belfast.
